You may have heard of breast augmentation surgery and are looking forward to undergoing one yourself. However, before you go in for this kind of procedure, you need to ask yourself a few simple questions which will give you a better understanding of what this is all about. Breast augmentation is becoming very common and there have been a lot of improvements in the way how people follow up these things.
However, what is the reason behind you wishing to undergo a breast augmentation surgery. Is it for a cosmetic purpose only? And what is it that you expect from the process. Are you sure that you will get the results you think you should get and do you understand that being a small surgery still it can be very expensive and you may have to undergone more than one surgery to correct what may not have gone as projected.
The important factor to be taken into consideration is that you are undergoing a surgery and that it will have all the complications any normal surgery will have. In fact, it is worse than that, as in a normal surgery you are actually trying to cure something, where here you are trying to correct something while not sure whether it is actually curing it or making it worse.
There are two basic types of implants; one which is the natural tissue implant and the synthetic implant. Natural tissue implants are done only for breast reconstruction and not for cosmetic purposes as they will be using the patient’s own body tissues to reconstruct the breast. This is a very tactful reconstruction work which involves re-shaping the whole breast including the nipple as well and allowing it to remain healthy and alive at the same time.
As far as augmentation is concerned, that is basically done with silicone gel or saline solution. Both these solutions are first encased in a silicone shell. There are always risks of having silicone or saline solution leakages due to some unknown reasons which can be very harmful to your health.
Pregnant women or breast feeding women may not be allowed to have breast augmentation surgery. Also, women under 18 will not be encouraged to have this procedure. Unfortunately, the benefits of breast augmentation are very few and only related to self confidence and feeling good about yourself, and that also provided you have got what you really wanted and the results are good. However there are many risks involved in the whole process which you should understand properly.
A high percentage of women have had to undergo a second or even more surgeries to correct simple problems like capsular contracture. It is the hardening of the implant which then it can become very painful and it needs to be removed as soon as possible. Another risk which is common is the possibility of getting an infection around the implant, may be because of the surgery or because of the foreign tissue trying to accommodate itself. Antibiotics can be prescribed for this condition, however, the discomforts and other symptoms involved will have to be experienced as well.
There is more research being done to make things better and the popularity of breast augmentation surgery is increasing more and more.
