Women’s reproductive system health and its complications are a very difficult issue to handle. Some women have a lot of problems with things like intercourse as they may have some disorder which is called dyspareunia. Lack of understanding of the reasons and causes of these diseases may be very disturbing and consulting a doctor for something like that may not be very comfortable for many women.
The most common reason for painful intercourse is the lack of lubrication of the vaginal walls, which will create problems like tearing or burning and aching. However, as sexual arousal is a very complicated subject to really understand and you cannot just pinpoint the physical side effects of the whole process while ignoring its emotional and mental side effects, it becomes very important to understand that once you have had a bad experience, reversal of that experience will take a lot of patience and understanding.
However, as women need to carry the responsibility of reproduction, it is very important to make sure that you understand your body and its functions and to consult your doctor on regular basis. Painful intercourse is not a very difficult disease to be treated and with proper treatment you can get rid of the symptoms in no time.
Painful intercourse may also take place in elderly women at the time of menopause. The hormonal balance gets affected at this time and the production of estrogen declines, creating dryness in the vaginal walls. Lack of moisture will lead to painful penetration and painful intercourse. Lack of sexual drive at the time of menopause can also be a leading cause of this discomfort.
Any traumatic sexual experiences that a woman may have had in her life can lead to symptoms of vaginismus which is basically an involuntary tightening of the vaginal muscles and which make penetration almost impossible. Forceful penetration at this point may lead to rupture or severe pain. The easiest way to treat this problem would be with counseling, because this is basically a psychological problem and it really does not have anything to do with the health of your reproductive organs. However, it can lead to lots of relationships problems you would like to avoid at all costs.
However, the most common cause of painful intercourse is vaginal infections or boils, tumors, scars and uterine growths, or any kind of complications from past surgeries. These conditions should not be ignored at all, and you should contact you doctor immediately to make sure you are not having any of these symptoms. Lack of proper care at this stage can lead to greater complications in the long run. Infections can also be transmitted to others and this can create a never ending vicious circle or medications and complications.
Of course, lubrication can easily be taken care of with special creams and that is not a big problem. There are diseases like diabetes which affect the arousal and lubrication of the vaginal walls which you may also want to take into consideration.
