Tinnitus is a disease of the ear. This disease manifests itself as a ringing sound which can be very mild sometimes, however which can grow to the extent that you cannot hear anything else and this can be very disturbing.

Some of the causes of tinnitus include hypertension or blood pressure related disorders, acoustic neuroma, Meniere’s disease, and arterial bruits. Accidents and head injuries and problems with your wisdom teeth can also cause tinnitus. Chronic infections of the ear channel and excessive wax deposits can also be some of the common causes of this problem and you need to make sure that your ears are cleaned at all times to avoid any infection.

Tinnitus is considered a chronic disease and there is no permanent cure for it. However, if the disease is related to a physical condition, then once the condition is cured, the symptoms of the tinnitus get better with time.

There are some specific sound therapies that are used by tinnitus patients to cope with the sound of the disease. By being aware of these sounds they are able to put their minds in other tasks and ignore the constant sound for sometime at least.

However, these symptoms are not really treated as a disease, but as the outcome of other ear related diseases that create the tinnitus. It is also related to hearing loss due to old age and most of the people that suffer from this condition are in the age range of 55 to 65 years of age.

The intensity of the sounds also depends on the intensity of the infection or problem that is actually creating this condition, as this is totally related to the loss of proper functions of the ear and the sounds, there are theories that this maybe a homeostatic response of the auditory neurons that is making them hyperactive and it is therefore creating this kind of noise.

The symptoms of this condition vary from person to person and there are those who have a constant ringing of the ears and in the worse cases, you will be hearing some very loud sounds which can be very disturbing specially if they don’t give you a break.
