Symptoms and Causes of anorexia

Anorexia is a very common eating disorder where people tend to starve themselves. This is a very common trend among young girls that feel that they need to have a perfect body to be able to be part of a very demanding society. However, research done in the medical science has also established that some of the reasons for anorexia may be related to fear of growing up as the human body has to undergo so many changes and not everybody is ready to face them in a timely manner.
Further studies have also revealed that anorexia can be considered to be a hereditary disease, since if your mother suffered from this problem in her teens; it is very likely that you will also have the same problems. Child abuse of any kind can also cause for you to dislike yourself and this is one of the major psychological causes of anorexia.
A person suffering from anorexia will require both mental and physical support. The physical support may include supervision during meal times and proper medications to allow the physical body to recover as fast as possible. Mental and emotional support with include psychotherapy for an extended period of time.
Since eating disorders at growth times are very crucial, anorexia can cause severe problems to the health of the patient, and some of the most common problems include osteoporosis, irregular heart beat and some growth development problems as well. Problems of the reproductive system are also very common among patients of anorexia.
About 20 percent of women that do not get treated for anorexia due to ignorance or lack of support from their families lose their lives on regular basis. And even with proper treatment, only about 60 percent of them are able to regain their normal health; where as 20 percent will always have some kind of eating disorder for the rest of their lives.
Dealing with a person that has anorexia is not easy and you have to be able to understand the state of denial that they are go through. These people need a lot of support and they are always angry with themselves. Getting help from professional organizations that are working with anorexia patients can be very supportive for the patients and for you as well.
