Understanding what is emphysema

Emphysema may not be a very well known disease, however, it is a disease which is increasing very rapidly and which is creating many loses of life all over the world. The most common pulmonary diseases are bronchitis, asthma and emphysema. The conditions of this disease are related to the lung tissues. When the tissues lose their elasticity, it becomes difficult for the lungs to function properly and the person begins to have breathing problems. Once this problem affects the lungs, the process becomes irreversible and the many people lose their lives fighting this disease.
Smoking is one of the causes of emphysema. Passive or active smoking is very bad for the lungs and it attacks the tissues of the lungs directly. Also, the amounts of pollution in the environment are affecting everybody in some form or the other. Other reasons for emphysema also include the lack of certain proteins in your system.
People suffering from emphysema will have trouble breathing most of the time, they will feel very tired for no apparent reason, they may have lots of mucus formation, and hyperventilation is also very common symptom.
The best precautions that you can take as a person suffering from emphysema are to quit smoking and to stay away from others that smoke. It has been found that passive smoking can be worse than active smoking for your health. Try as much as possible to stay away from polluted areas and have a proper air purifier in your home to avoid all kinds of dust.
Some good home remedies to help you cope with the discomforts of emphysema can include herbal teas of fennel and rose hips which help heal the throat area. You can also clear any congestion of your lungs with eucalyptus or garlic oil massage. Fenugreek capsules are considered to be good for congestion.
Follow a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables that contain good amounts of vitamin C. Beta carotene is also very good for this condition and is found in sweet potatoes, squash, carrots and many other veggies.
Have a fitness regime that will help you have a healthy body without having to exert yourself too much. Exercise plays a very important role in the balance of your immune system. Magnesium is also found to be good to clear the air passages because of its antihistamine properties. Grape juice is a very good antioxidant.
Also, please make sure that you drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. It is very important to have plenty of liquids in your system to be able to get rid of the extra mucus faster.
