Our problem in today’s world is not lack of choice but an overabundance of choice. There are so many products on teeth whitening that the buyer is absolutely lost even before you can begin. Because the question is where do we begin? We live in a society that judges us by our looks.
In today’s society people are more conscious about looks than ever before. Let’s face it we are surrounded by beauty natural and man made. Flawless skin and finely shaped features are all very well but the most attractive and obsessive trait in people is the smile. A beautiful smile complemented by white teeth is every person’s dream.
Many of us eat and drink things like cheeses and fast foods, wine and beverages that stain out teeth. Giving up our food and drink habits can be difficult. Hence we go looking for products to whiten teeth. At this point the problem arises – which product to choose.
We will first take a look at some home remedies.
- Lemon juice and salt: mixing equal parts of lemon juice and salt to form a paste, which is applied to the yellow areas of the teeth, is considered one of the most effective teeth whitening remedies.
- Walnut bark: rubbing walnut tree bark on your teeth is said to be effective in removing stains. Hardwood ash which contains potassium hydroxide is also supposed to be an effective teeth whitener.
- Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide: mixing equal parts of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and using as a mouth rinse is another way of making your teeth whiter. Do not swallow the mixture.
- Salt Water: a mixture of salt and water mouth wash is also a way of keeping teeth clean and white. You can also add salt to your toothpaste and brush with it.
- Orange and lemon peel, and strawberry rubbed on teeth is said to have a whitening effect.
- You have to use teeth whitening methods which are non abrasive and do not damage vital calcium and enamel from teeth.
Professional teeth whitening methods adopted by dentists:
- Carbamide peroxide: this is also called urea peroxide and is an oxidizing agent, consisting of hydrogen peroxide compounded with urea. This is used by dentists to bleach teeth and the active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide.
- Hydrogen Peroxide: is a very effective mouthwash and teeth whitening agent. Prolonged use over a period of time shows definite teeth whitening results. Make it part of your daily oral hygiene and see the difference in the overall appearance of your teeth.
Teeth Whitening Toothpaste: this is called the extrinsic method of teeth cleaning – cleaning from the outside which is what toothpaste can and will do.
Teeth Whitening: this is a process by which a whitening gel is placed in a tray that is fitted over your teeth. Carbamide perioxide is the active teeth whitening ingredient that is used. Crowns and fillings will remain untouched. The fit of the tray over your teeth is extremely critical to the success of this treatment. That is why a good dentist is always the better choice.
