If left untreated it can escalate to further complications and it will rapidly cause death of the patient.

Not all countries in the world have malaria problems, and although mosquitoes do exist almost everywhere, you will not find the disease carriers in North America or Europe. Most under developed countries have a high rate of malaria and it the best possible way of avoiding the disease is to take some preventive measures while travelling out of your country.

It is a very good idea to contact your doctor and find out about the kind of precautions that you can take in this regard, for example, the usage of mosquito repellents and creams is very important, also there are hotels all over the world that provide mosquito nets that help you keep away from mosquitoes.

Early detection of malaria is very simple and the doctor will be able to give you proper medication which you can easily take home and the symptoms of the disease will go away in no time. These medications are normally antibiotics and they will need to be prescribed by your doctor.

It is only if Malaria has reached certain stage that you may have to be hospitalized and treated with extra care. Also, you will have to take into consideration the problems of dehydration. With high fever and lack of appetite, it can be very easy to become dehydrated. It is very important to drink plenty of water and take all precautions in time.

Some of the most common drugs used to treat malaria include Quinine sulphate with doxycycline. This is normally prescribed for one week and although there are some side effects of this drug, it is considered to be very good for malaria. Malarone is also considered to be a good alternative, although it is a very expensive drug and there have been cases of people that have had no positive results with this treatment.

However, if the condition of the malaria has reached certain stages, then the patient will have to be hospitalized to allow the doctors to monitor the effects of the drugs and to keep a very close eye on the disease and its course. Medications will need to be monitored to avoid overdose.

Malaria can also be confused with flu like symptoms. Therefore, if you have travelled to places where this is considered to be a high risk disease, then it is advisable that you contact your doctor and get yourself properly examined to rule out any problems that may affect your health in the long run.
