Information on migraine headaches

A migraine headache is not a normal pain in your head. This is considered to be a neurological disease. The symptoms of this disease are a throbbing and growing pain on one side of the head accompanied by nausea and vomiting. People suffering from a migraine attack can be very sensitive to sounds, light and smells. These symptoms are however not the same among sufferers.

There are a few symptoms that are very common among people suffering from migraine and they include the prodrome or premonition that a migraine is going to attack and the person will suffer from mood swings, depression, fatigue and sleepiness and craving for chocolates. People that suffer from migraines on regular basis learn to understand these symptoms which mean that an attack may happen in the next few days.

The second stage is the aura of the migraine and this normally happens about one hour before the attack. People will normally have vision related problems, you can be seeing as if you are watching through a thick glass or you can see stars, however, this is a temporary visual outcome of the attack. Also, you may feel needles and pins in some parts of your body.

The next stage is the actual pain. This does not necessarily have to be on one side only. This pain can be focused on both sides of the temples or it can be generalized, however, it is a gradual pain that increases with time and then it subdues. The time of the attack varies from person to person and it can last between 4 to 72 hours.

There are people that suffer from migraine attacks three to four times a month and there are those that have been luckier to have experienced these kinds of pains only once or twice in their lifetimes.

However a person suffering from a migraine attack can have other symptoms which include vomiting or nausea, problems with light and sound and smells. All these factors seem to increase the throbbing pain in the head and the person looks for a dark and quite place to hide for some time. Digestive problems, especially diarrhea are common, edema of the scalp or face, problems concentrating, lightheadness or vertigo are also some of the related symptoms.

The fourth stage is the postdrome and in this face the person feels tired and exosted, but at the same time relieved from the pain. However, some people suffer from a mild depression due to the intensity of the attacks and the way it may be affecting the lifestyle of the sufferer. Of course, there are many different reactions to the whole process however, this is a disease that you need to take care of otherwise it can create a big disturbance in your life in the long run.

If you are a person suffering from very strong pains and with similar symptoms as those mentioned above, then the best thing that you should do is contact your doctor and get proper medication for alleviating this pain. A migraine can be contained before it makes you useless.
