Myasthenia Gravis is the Latin term for a very common disorder called the grave muscle weakness. This disease is considered to be an autoimmune disorder and it is very common. Many studies have been done to try and find the causes and treatments for this specific disorder.
The most common symptom of the disease is extreme fatigue of the muscles after any kind of physical activity. If the patient is resting, there is no problem to any part of his body. Myasthenia Gravis does not affect a particular muscle; however it is seen that it affects the muscles that need to move on regular basis like the eyes, the facial muscles, the neck muscles and the muscles that allow you to swallow.
This is a very difficult disorder to diagnose as Myasthenia Gravis is more or less like a simple pain getting very bad, however, not every patient of this disorder will have the same symptoms and you will end up taking a pain killer for a neck pain or contacting your eye specialist to find out what is wrong with the eyes. All symptoms are not shown immediately and even if your doctor may advice for you to have some tests to rule out the presence of Myasthenia Gravis, the tests may not give the accurate results as well.
Most of the tests done to rule out the disorder are done to the eyes only and fifty percent of these tests always come negative. However, this is not a chronic or debilitating disease. People that do a lot of fitness and sports training will suffer more from these problems as the muscle fatigue will hit them the most, however, once you are not so active, the symptoms will minimize and you will be able to have a normal life.
However, if the myasthenia is more acute, then you can have an emergency situation especially if the patient is having breathing problems. As the disorder affects the muscles of the neck and swallowing can become difficult, the patient may need urgent assistance to avoid any further complications. These respiratory problems can also lead to other complications like infections and disorders of the respiratory system.
There are many medications available for the proper treatment of Myasthenia. Once the disease has been diagnosed, then it is very important to follow the instructions of your doctor and take the proper precautions to control the disease.
